4 Ways to Style an Autumn Wedding

Autumn is a bewitching season for a wedding. The romantic tones of rich reds, greens and golds evoke English countryside vibes. For an autumnal wedding suit, you can get creative and explore unique ways to style your ensemble. Read on to find out how you can style your wedding suit, to evoke the season.

CUT

Our tailoring consultant Chloe finds that “a classic English tailored look lends itself to the season of Autumn. Strong lines, bold checks and warm tones are best suited to this season.”

A three-piece suit with a flattering double-breasted waistcoat is always highly recommended for a wedding suit. Not only does it give your suit a retro vibe to your ensemble, it’s also very practical! In this unpredictable English weather, you can remove your jacket if you’re feeling too hot and still look smart.

CLOTH

The Autumn months tend to be a bit cooler so the worry of feeling hot is fading away, you can layer up on a range of fabrics and styles. We offer a wide range of cloths that perfectly encapsulate this season.

If your venue is outside you may want to choose a cloth that will give warmth and protection. Heavy Tweed and wool cloths offer the best solution - they are classics for a reason. They are both durable and stylish and are visually interesting as they are woven with little bits of colour, adding more dimension.. In contrast to lighter summer fabrics, Autumn is all about natural textures; rugged and more durable than lightweight fabrics. However, if you’re looking for something softer than Tweed, you can opt for our Bamboo cloth which is very popular because of its varied check patterns, vibrant colours and incredibly soft feel.

If you are looking to make a statement, bold patterns like houndstooth, windowpane or striking glen checks are the way to go. They are always a bang-on trend in the colder months. You can also mix and match cloths to add dimension to your look. For example a check jacket with a plain waistcoat or trousers complement each other very well.

Tailoring consultant Chloe’s personal favourite range is Holland & Sherry’s Moorland Tweeds, which she says ‘gives a beautiful country look without the rugged bristles of a standard tweed, but carrying enough weight to hang beautifully on the body.”

COLOURS

A warm rustic colour palette brings out the countryside vibes and complements the rich tones of Autumn. Instead of greys, navies and blacks, opt for vibrant, jewel-toned colours such as burnt orange, red, mustard yellow, amethyst purple, deep forest green. Our check patterns include multiple colours, which gives more depth and choice of style.

DETAILS

We offer a range of linings to choose from, all of which suit not only different wedding themes but also your own individual personality. A great autumn pattern that would complement the season’s colours would be the repetitive geometric designs of art deco, which offers an edgy and vintage feel.

If you are planning to wear traditional boutonniere flowers on your lapel, go for something striking. Dried arrangements of ferns mixed with quirky flowers like Dahlias, freesias and daisies are very chic.

Add more dimension to your ensemble with a colourful tie or pocket square, or change the style of your tie knot. We have YouTube and TikTok video tutorials on unique tie knots, you can view them here.
