Marcel & Roman Somerville: A Bespoke Parent-Child Journey

There’s something uniquely meaningful about crafting a bespoke suit, even more so when it’s a journey taken together. For a parent and child, it’s not just about the finished garments, but the shared experience: choosing fabrics, being fitted side by side, and seeing the final look take shape together.
That was certainly the case for Marcel and Roman Somerville, who joined us for a father-and-son tailoring experience. The result? Two beautifully crafted matching suits – and a process Roman described as “10 out of 10!” From the first fitting to the final reveal, it was a moment of connection, creativity, and style they’ll carry with them for years to come.
Marcel and Roman Somerville
Marcel – also known as Rocky B – rose to fame as a member of the iconic boy band Blazin’ Squad. He’s also made his mark as a DJ and record producer, and you might recognise him from Love Island and Love Island: All Stars, where he earned his place as a certified TV heart-throb.
Joining him was his equally stylish son, Roman Somerville – who may just have outdressed his dad on the day. We had the pleasure of tailoring Roman’s very first bespoke suit, and it’s safe to say it’s an experience he won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
The pair came to us looking for sharp, matching business-style suits to wear to a family member’s wedding, that were also versatile enough to re-wear to multiple events.
A sneak peek into the Initial Consultation

Marcel had visited us before to create his wedding suit; a crisp white dinner jacket with black accents. But this time was even more special, as it was Roman’s first time being introduced to all things bespoke tailoring, an experience most people don’t have until later in life.
“I didn’t get my first bespoke suit until I was 31, so being able to get Roman his first PROPER tailored suit at 4 makes me very proud.”
With the mission to find a suit that speaks for both of them, they wanted something meaningful and personal, with a sharp double-breasted suit in mind. The excitement that flooded Roman’s face when he was introduced to a world of vibrant colours and playful lining patterns made the consultation truly heartwarming.
They decided on the same cloth, a grey pinstripe flannel with a double-breasted tailored cut elevated by peak lapels. However, they chose different linings that reflect their personalities. Roman chose a space lining with bursts of colours that show his energetic, cheeky side, and Marcel, the music enthusiast, went for an old-style jazz lining.
Taking Measurements
The second part of the consultation was where all the laughter and giggles came, mainly from Roman, as he danced around while trying to get his measurements taken. At King & Allen, your initial appointment is yours to tailor; we want you to enjoy your experience from start to finish.

Onto the Baste…

Pink? But didn’t we say grey? Marcel and Roman had what is referred to as a baste, a skeleton of the suit, not yet lined or finished. To speed up the process, we used a mock baste, which uses a different cloth to the final chosen fabric, allowing the tailor to focus on perfecting the fit. At this stage, there are no final buttonholes, linings, or finishing - so they very much had to trust the process.
A big focus of this phase is refining the ‘balance’, or in other words how the suit hangs. This is something our tailors are trained to pay particular attention to, and is critical to address at this stage as it can’t be altered after the final suit is cut.

The Big Reveal

Roman came bounding in, bursting with excitement at seeing his finished suit, which made it nearly impossible to do the final fit checks - a hilarious challenge that was a running theme throughout the tailoring process.
Marcel and Roman were (thankfully) over the moon with their finished suits… “I absolutely love my suit” Marcel said, and Roman agreed - giving it a solid “10 out of 10”! No doubt about it, they were going to be the best dressed at the family wedding.

As a final note in celebrating suits that symbolize a special bond, we want to acknowledge that the power of a well-tailored suit goes far beyond just fathers and sons. Whether it’s between lifelong friends, mothers and children, or entire wedding parties, they all leave a special mark on those involved. Here are a few clients we’ve had the pleasure of creating complementing suits for.

If you’re thinking of bringing a young child to a consultation, we can make extra arrangements to accommodate those unexpected growth spurts. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp or book a consultation via our website.
