Adam Thomas’ Wedding Suit: How We Designed the Suits for Their Country Manor Wedding

This Summer, we had the pleasure of tailoring a wedding suit for Emmerdale actor, Adam Thomas.

We also made suits for his best men (and brothers), Ryan and Scott, as well as his adorable son, Teddy, who is only two years old.

OK! Magazine shared the exclusive photographs from Adam and Caroline’s country manor wedding in this week’s issue and we were blown away.

They both looked absolutely fantastic; Caroline in an exquisite beaded gown and Adam in a mid-blue, flannel suit with a contrasting grey check waistcoat.

In today’s article, we are interviewing Karl Lewis, our Wilmslow store manager, and the Thomas brothers’ tailoring consultant, to get a behind-the-scenes look at the design and tailoring process for this very special wedding…

What was Adam Thomas looking for when he came to us for his wedding suit?

It’s always nice when a client comes to you with a vision of the style they want and thankfully, Adam had some great ideas of what he was after.

The plan was to make sure that Teddy’s suit matched his. On the day, Teddy, was the sharpest dressed toddler, wearing a very dapper three-piece that matched his Dad’s suit perfectly – even down to the waistcoat.

How did he coordinate his suit with his best men’s?

Adam wanted his suit to complement Ryan and Scott’s suit, whilst still standing out. He decided to use the same grey check cloth used for his own waistcoat in Ryan and Scott’s suits.

The result was phenomenal – four uniquely stylish suits that looked just as good on their own as they did in a group.

How did you decide upon the cloth used in the suits?

From the beginning, Adam was keen to use a flannel cloth in his suit. Funnily enough, I happened to have some cloth books out on the consultation table when Adam visited us for the first time, one of which was the flannel book, and he ended up choosing fabrics from those books!

What was the tailoring process like for Adam and his brothers?

We used our Traditional Bespoke construction method for their suits, which means that all of the suits are hand-stitched and have a baste fitting before they are fully constructed.

The tailoring process went very smoothly over four appointments. At the first appointment, Adam chose the cloth and the style before getting measured up. We also measured Ryan, Scott, and Teddy. At the second appointment, we did the baste fitting, where most of the big alterations are done to get a beautiful fit.

At the third appointment, the boys tried on the fully constructed suits for the first time and we were able to make any final tweaks to the fit. At the fourth and final appointment, they tried on their suits and were able to take them home with them.

Teddy’s suit didn’t require as many fittings, as he did not need a baste.

How did you go about tailoring a mini-me suit for Adam and Caroline’s son, Teddy?

I love making suits for children – they always look so cool! We have a few tricks up our sleeve to ensure that the suit fits well and is comfortable for a child to wear.

For example, we gave Teddy a little more room in the suit and used an elastic waistband at the back of the trousers to ensure that he was able to run around and feel comfortable wearing it all day. This also allows for some growth, since children inevitably grow within the six weeks it takes to make the suit!

Do you have any advice for wedding parties wanting to wear bespoke suits?

Do it! You won’t regret it, especially if you want everyone to be wearing the same fabric. It also ensures that everyone in the wedding party is wearing a suit that fits properly and has a cohesive style.

My main advice for those wanting to get bespoke suits for their wedding party is to get in early to start the process. Organising groups isn’t always an easy task, so it gives you plenty of time to enjoy the process rather than cram it in last minute!
