And the Winner is...
Following the announcement of our 2022 photo competition, we were delighted to receive such a high number of entries! But the Facebook jury had clearly decided on their favourite.
Anne Hightower-Wareing is the winner of our 2022 photo competition!
We interviewed Anne on her journey and experience with King & Allen.
How did you and your partner meet?
Nikki saw my profile on a dating app but she thought I looked too cool for her so she didn’t message. A few weeks later Nikki saw me at the queer barbers shop we both go to. I was having my hair cut, and Nikki was there to meet up with friends. Nikki spied me across the room and recognised me from the dating app. When Nikki left the barbers shop she messaged me on the dating app!
Who proposed and how did it happen?
I proposed first, but Nikki knew I was planning to propose that day because I’d been acting in a very suspicious way. Nikki had already been designing a ring to propose to me with, and picked it up that morning. I had scoped out a little spot in the Golders Hill Pergola and Hill Gardens. It was pouring with rain the day of the engagement but I scoped out a covered spot to propose to Nikki. I got down on one knee following a short speech I’d written on a scrap of paper. Then, much to my surprise, Nikki pulled out a ring and proposed back to me!
What made you decide on a suit and why was it important to you?
I wanted to look cool and feel confident. I haven’t worn a dress in years, it just isn’t me. I loved the idea of having something as special and unique as a wedding dress, but that matched my style - so a custom suit was a no brainer.
What made you decide on getting a suit made with King & Allen?
I did LOTS of research on social media, and so much of the women’s suiting I saw looked uninspiring and corporate. King & Allen stood out - everything I saw felt really stylish, inclusive, and high-quality. I loved that King & Allen seemed to sell themselves on making gorgeous bespoke suits for all bodies and shapes.
How was your experience with King & Allen?
Really positive - I was so well looked after. Initially, I was worried about feeling uncomfortable because it’s such a “male thing” to get a tailored suit, but I relaxed right away. Everyone was welcoming, knowledgeable and professional, and each appointment was really thorough but also comfortable.
How did you feel in your suit on your wedding day?
I felt like a million bucks! I felt amazing. I knew Nikki was the star of the show of course, but I liked that our outfits complimented each other, and we each shone in our own way. I knew I looked good, and it made me feel really confident and excited for Nik to see me at the top of the aisle (but maybe not as excited as I was to see her!)
Will you be wearing the suit again?
Obviously! Any excuse and I’m in it. I’ve worn it to every other wedding we’ve been to (4 this year already)! And I always get tons of compliments.
How did it feel to win the photo competition and Are you excited about your new suit?
I don’t think I knew this initially, but Nikki has always been a bit envious of my amazing suit - now she has the perfect excuse to have one of her own! It’s such a special thing to have - something individual that’s tailored to you and truly feels priceless. I’m really chuffed that we won and she gets this opportunity. We’ll have to wear them together to the next wedding we attend...!
