Personalise Your Lining: King & Allen Printed Fabrics

Bespoke is about embedding a little piece of you into every stitch. It’s a one-of-a-kind creation and a truly personal experience, designed to reflect your style, story, and individuality.

One of the most striking and meaningful ways to personalise your suit is through a custom printed fabric. Whether this is a jacket/waistcoat lining or the outer fabric of your suit, you can create something truly your own.

King and Allen

At King & Allen, we already offer an extensive range of linings, from bold paisleys and musical motifs to designs inspired by hobbies and passions. There’s something for everyone. But sometimes, you want something even more personal. That’s where custom fabrics come in. We can print any design onto the fabric of your garment - such as a drawing, painting, photo or pattern.

In this blog, we’ll take you behind the scenes to show you how we create a custom fabric, including a real-life story of a client who turned his passion into a wearable work of art.

1. Creating the Design

Let your imagination run wild! You can design your own unique lining with our in-house team, or even try crafting it yourself.

Having trouble picturing your idea? Don't worry! Many of our tailoring consultants are illustrators, so they have a fantastic eye for detail and can help bring your vision to life in a truly stunning design.

If you already have a design you’ve got your heart set on, we can get straight to printing. And when we say we can print anything, we mean anything. To get an idea of what’s possible, take a look at Ben’s custom fabric, a one-of-a-kind piece he designed and illustrated entirely by himself.

Ben’s Dungeons & Dragons

Ben designed this Dungeons & Dragons map himself, hand-drawing every intricate detail. We then transformed his artwork into a bespoke lining for his double-breasted two-piece suit. He was over the moon with the result, wearing it proudly for his civil partnership. One thing to keep in mind when creating a custom lining is that it’s printed in panels, so designs like Ben’s work best as repeatable prints, where the panel joins become part of the artwork.

2. Production

Once the design is finalised with our King & Allen team, it’s sent to our partner Inkspin, who first mock up your design using their garment visualiser, helping you see exactly how it will look.

From there, software converts the vector-based print file into rasterised images; pixel-based files that can be read by the printer. The design is then printed onto sublimation paper.

Next, high heat transfers the ink from the sublimation paper directly onto the fabric. This process is zero-waste, as only what’s needed is printed, and it uses a waterless dyeing method, making it significantly more sustainable.

3. Crafting the Suit

The finished fabric is then handed over to the King & Allen tailors, who expertly cut it to your unique suit template and sew it into the suit, ensuring that it lines up perfectly to match the approved design.

Fast-forward to the final fitting, you’ll get your first glimpse of the finished suit. This is the moment you get to see your design brought to life, not just on paper or fabric, but as a finished part of a suit tailored for you.

A Nice Finishing Touch

Personalisation doesn’t have to end with your suit fabrics. Consider extending your unique design to a matching pocket square, crafted from the same bespoke fabric. This creates a cohesive and truly distinctive look, allowing you to showcase your personal style even when your jacket is buttoned.
