4 White Wedding Suit styles for a Stand-out look

The white wedding suit has always been a statement of style, from David Beckham’s ivory suit with a satin cravat at his 1999 wedding to Victoria Beckham, to Bianca Jagger’s bold YSL blazer and skirt at her 1971 wedding to Mick Jagger. In the last few years, however, the trend has skyrocketed in popularity, embraced by celebrities like Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, who tied the knot in New York in 2024, as well as Steven Piet and Joey King, who married in 2023.

With its clean look, sharp lines and timeless appeal, it’s no surprise that the white suit is a favourite choice for a wedding. In this blog, we explore four different styles of white wedding suit, taking a look at the cut, fabric and details that will help you create a standout white suit for your big day.

1. The Power of a Cropped Cut

You may have spotted Lucy Spraggan’s striking white cropped jacket we crafted for her wedding in 2024. This modern twist on a bespoke tailored jacket is a powerful statement piece that screams, ‘I don’t play by the rules’. Cut to sit at the narrowest part of the waist, this cropped style is a great way to experiment with the body’s silhouette. Cropped jackets give you a taller appearance and enhance the proportions of your shoulders. It is also a popular style for someone wanting an androgynous look.

Curious? You could try a double-breasted style, like Lucy. Buttoned, it gives a bold, figure-amplifying look, whilst keeping it open gives more movement to the ensemble and draws attention to the shirt/waistcoat beneath. For a gender-fluid appearance, skip the shirt and go for a lapel-free waistcoat to highlight the sharp, straight neckline.

A cropped jacket is also a versatile choice if you’re looking for something that can flip between smart and casual - pair it with a casual top, high-waisted trousers, or a skirt.

2. Lace it Up: Contemporary Cloth

Wedding suits can be a lovely combination of suit and dress styling. Lace detailing is a decorative element attached to a suit made from an open-webbed fabric, often featuring floral or geometric patterns. The lace element in your suit can also tie in well with your partner’s dress design, providing a cohesive look.

For a bold, eye-catching look, consider replacing the jacket sleeves with lace or adding a separate lace piece, like a waistcoat or cravat. One King & Allen client chose to add her own lace top, and looked fabulous in it (see below image)! If you prefer more intricate detailing, adding a lace trim to the lapel or pockets can add personal fair to your suit without changing the entire look.

3. A Statement Lapel

Lapels are a key feature of a suit, framing the face, enhancing the shoulders, and balancing the body. A contrasting lapel is a popular choice in formal wear and tuxedos, adding depth and dimension to the look. Whilst many of our clients love a bold black lapel against a white suit, the colour options are endless. You can even choose to have colour over the full lapel or half of the lapel, or even adding piping…

You of course have the choice of our 3 lapel shapes:

Notch

Typically used on single-breasted jackets

Peak

A nice touch to a double-breasted jacket

Shawl

A smooth, curved design often seen on smoking jackets

4. Add a Little Bit of Length

A white morning suit is a sophisticated choice for a wedding as it is traditionally the suit attire favoured for formal daytime events. With a cutaway front, the tailcoat normally falls down to the back of the knees, providing a perfect blend of timelessness and tastefulness. To accentuate the silhouette of the morning suit, try extending the length of the tails for an avant-garde twist.

The below jacket has a curved front and features six buttons, two of which are fastening.
