Why Size Should Not Matter

To badly misquote Einstein: women’s sizes are a stubbornly persistent illusion. Size 12, size 18, size 8, even size 0. We’ve all heard them. We all use them in our everyday lives. But what do they actually mean?

Announcing the Winner of The King & Allen Photo Competition 2018!

Just over a month ago, we invited King & Allen customers to enter our annual Photo Competition. Entrants had to post a photo of themselves on social media, wearing a King & Allen suit, using the hashtag #shootthesuit and tagging us. The judging process was really difficult, with a wide range of fantastic pictures, showing off our customer’s sartorial flair. We narrowed it down to six finalists. It was then up to our Facebook community to choose the winner. We had hundreds of votes but eventually we had to count the likes and find out the winner!

Breaking Down The Price Of Bespoke. What Should I Spend On My Wedding Suit?

Wedding planning season is always an exciting and busy time at King & Allen, with lots of clients coming to see us for help creating that special bespoke suit. For many, this will be the first time they’ve ever considered going bespoke and we believe that the experience of having your wedding suit made should be as much of an occasion as a bride choosing her dress. Unsurprisingly, though, price is often a key consideration for couples and we wanted to help answer the question ‘how much should I spend on my bespoke wedding suit?’ So, we asked Karl, one of our most experienced tailors, to walk you through three price brackets, to give you an idea of what to expect for your money.

The King & Allen Charity Appeal

As you may know from our Facebook and Twitter posts, King & Allen were delighted to be presented with a letter of recognition from the charity Mapis. They run a service called ‘Suit2Go,’ which provides suits to disadvantaged men, in an effort to help them back into employment. Although these men may have received advice on training and skills, very often they are disheartened with the interview stage, as they have nothing appropriate to wear.

King & Allen salute… the Merino Sheep

There are 1.1 billion sheep in the world, but only 3% (36 million) are the genuine Merino ram and ewe cross – the thoroughbreds if you will. Consider that these sheep can only be shorn once a year and it soon becomes clear why good quality merino wool is such a rare ‘delicacy’.

The politics of clothing. Suffragettes, suits and solidarity.

On 6 February 1918, more than eight million women won the right to vote, thanks to the introduction of the Representation of the People Act. It would be another decade before all women and men could have their say (another five million men were given the vote under the 1918 act), but it was a significant step forward, not least for the suffragette movement, who had campaigned for more than a decade.

How to Take Care of Your Shoes

Quality, not quantity, is a style mantra we live by at King & Allen. You don’t need a huge wardrobe of clothing to dress well. A smaller, more considered, wardrobe of high-quality, versatile pieces is much more useful.
